The important river system it owns and which includes the Douro, Paiva (Rede Natura 2000 site), Arda and Sardoura Rivers, defines the main features of its geomorphology, guided by the sequence of hills and valleys that lead to fantastic viewpoints, from which the S. Domingos Hill stands out as the most emblematic one.<\/p>\n<p>Nature is the main touristic resource of the municipality. Its geological heritage deserves, in this context, special attention as it includes recently discovered 300 million years old Carboniferous fossils and the fossil coal at Pej\u00e3o Mining Complex, exploited until 1994, and hence resulting in an undoubtable historical and industrial heritage.<\/p>\n<p>Another highlight is the magnificent biodiversity of the Paiva River and the exceptional conditions it offers to practice rafting and other adventure sports. <\/p>\n<p>The Douro River and its surroundings harmoniously combine nature with culture to welcome its visitors with unique spaces of contemplation, interpretation, meditation and relaxation.<\/p>\n<p>There are, as a result of a perfect symbiosis between nature and the human hand, magnificent landscapes with superb wine-producing estates throughout the municipality, where the unique green wines of the region are produced. <\/p>\n<p>As far as its historical and built heritage is concerned, the following monuments deserve special attention: the Marmoiral de Sobrado, a National Monument and an element of the Romanesque Route; the Pelourinho da Raiva; the medieval graves dug in Penedo de Vegide; and the manor houses, especially the Solar da Boavista and the Solar da Fisga with its fountains and gardens.<\/p>\n<p>To complement the local tourist offer, the town presents its visitors with a rich and varied gastronomy and an annual program of events that highlights its cuisine and local wine, \u201cvinho verde\u201d, its sports, its culture and customs, its crafts and
