The conditions of the relief and the predominant climate in the Montanhas M\u00e1gicas provide the ideal conditions for the existence of an exuberant and diversified flora, with extensive areas of native flora and several rare species.<\/h2>\n

The flora is of great importance at the Montanhas M\u00e1gicas\u00ae and species such as the chain fern, the cyclamen-flowered daffodil, the blueberry, the European nettle tree, the holly or the fritillary are present in some rivers such as the Paiva, Douro, Vouga, Teixeira or Caima. Some of the most interesting ecosystems, present here, are the bogs on the top of the mountain ranges, the adernal of the Teixeira and Paiva valleys, the verdant oak groves and the very abundant riverine forests, the rock fragments and rocky outcrops and the subtropical forest formations that take refuge in the more thermophilic valleys. One of the main holly populations of Portugal, counting some thousands of individuals, has been developing at Caima. Some of the endemic rock species (species restricted to Portugal or to the Iberian Peninsula) are also present in the cliffs and escarpments that mark the whole territory, as it is the case of the wild radish, \u201cp\u00f3lio-das-rochas\u201d, \u201cmargarida-das-rochas\u201d, caryophyllaceae, narcisus asturiensis, anarrhinum longipedicellatum, yellow garlic or echinospartum ibericum. The Freita and Montemuro bogs have a floristic \u201cprocession\u201d of great value, in which the sphagnum, the matgrass, the heath, the cyclamen-flowered daffodil and the \u201clameirinha\u201d stand out. The riverside forests are, with their alders, willows, ash trees, alder buckthorns, midland hawthorns, hazelnut trees, elm trees, poplars, cherry trees, pear trees, chestnut trees, Portugal laurels and common laurels, one of the most diverse forest formations in Portugal.<\/p>\n
