Montemuro Mountain - Castro Daire, Cinfães and Arouca

This itinerary offers you the discovery of what was described by the Portuguese renowned geographer, Amorim Girão, “the most unknown mountain of Portugal.” Nevertheless, the Montemuro Mountain is the eighth highest elevation of the Portuguese mainland and the third in the south of the Douro, having a remarkable and preserved biodiversity, which gave it the classification as a Rede Natura 2000 site of Community Importance.

Along this itinerary, in addition to being able to visit the highest point of Montanhas Mágicas® and the magnificent landscapes of the Montemuro mountain, which during the winter are often covered with snow, you will also find peculiar rocks that tell legends and stories of the Earth that are millions of years old; archaeological remains, churches, chapels, villages and ancient settlements, that prove the remote occupation of the territory; museums that preserve valuable stories and memories; and theater actors and artisans, who spread the name of this mountain. You can also contemplate curious waterfalls and forests of centenarian oaks and chestnuts trees, and enjoy magnificent leisure and recreation parks with the possibility of practicing many animation activities and adventure sports.
