The Bestança is a rare valley, a place of magic and inspiring nature. Mostly integrated in the Montemuro Mountain, it is also covered by the Natura 2000 network thanks to its biodiversity richness. The itinerary we propose begins in Porto Antigo, on the left bank of the Douro river, and ends at the viewpoint of Teixeirô, opposite to the Porto Antigo, in a hillside over the mouth of the Bestança. Following the proposed route from Porto Antigo, you can visit the village of Boassas, with sights over the Douro river; the bridge of Covelas, one of the ex-libris of Cinfães municipality; Castro do Monte das Coroas, possibly inhabited since the Bronze Age; the Church of Ferreiros de Tendais with a peculiar bell tower and a fabulous ceiling of golden and polychromed cofferes; the Fragas of Penavilheira, a succession of waterfalls surrounded by towering cliffs; and the unique Eiras da Laje. Going down on the panoramic EN321, the scenic road connecting Castro Daire to Cinfães, you will also find the Tendais Stream Cascade next to a leisure park with a beautiful set of mills and the Interpretation Center of the Bestança Valley, an area of excellence for the development and enhancement of the natural and cultural heritage of the Bestança river and valley.
