About

Campo Benfeito is a typical mountain village, located in the heart of the Montemuro Mountain, at about 1.030m altitude. It is classified as Aldeia de Portugal®, having a rich cultural and architectural heritage. The typical granite houses, the pretty church, the beautiful fountain and the Pelourinho de Campo Benfeito, classified as a Public Interest Building since 1993, are worth highlighting. In this village the arts and traditional crafts, including crafts in linen, wool and “burel” made by the Capuchinhas do Montemuro deserve special attention. It annually hosts the “Festival Altitudes”, organized by Teatro do Montemuro, an itinerant theater company based here and whose work dignifies the village and the territory of Montanhas Mágicas®. From the village you can start a visit to the Campo Benfeito Biodiversity Station, part of the PR3 – Carvalhos route, whose section runs from the wonderful Balsemão river Valley to the village of Cotelo, allowing the observation of bucolic landscapes and outstanding examples of of fauna and flora.
