Poço de Santiago Bridge is one of the Ex-libris of Sever do Vouga municipality, it was inaugurated in 1913 and was part of the section of the Vouga railway line, currently converted into Ecotrail. Considered the highest stone bridge in Portugal, this is a magnificent piece of engineering, designed by the French Séjourné and built at the beginning of the 20th century under the guidance of François Mercier. Built in masonry, the bridge reaches 28.5 meters height and is composed of eleven round arches, that support a 165 meters board. The larger arch reaches the entire width of the river bed. Some inhabitants still keep the memory of the “Vouguinha”, the affectionate name given to the emblematic steam train that crossed this bridge and the picturesque landscapes of the Vouga Valley.
